چکیده

Tibial diaphyseal fractures are one of the commonest long bone fractures encountered by most of the orthopaedic surgeons. There are many methods of treatment for tibial diaphyseal fractures. But now-a-days closed intramedullary interlocking nailing is emerging as treatment of choice for all closed tibial diaphyseal fractures, most of type Iand type II open fractures in adults. Closed IM IL nailing is a type of indirect fracture fixation, in which fracture unites by indirect healing. There are very less chances of complications like infection, non-union, delayed union, malunion, but more chances of union. We aim to study efficiency of closed intramedullary interlocking nailing in the treatment of tibial diaphyseal fractures. A total of 50 patients with tibial diaphyseal fractures (39 closed fractures, 8 type I open fractures and 3 type II open fractures) were operated with closed intramedullary interlocking nailing. The cases were followed up for an average period of 10-16 months. Excellent results were obtained in 70% of cases. Good results were obtained in 18%, fair results in 8% and poor in 4%. Complications include 10% superficial infection, 4% deep infection, 10% malunion, 12% restriction of ankle and knee movements. Intramedullary interlocking nailing is the reliable, versatile and effective treatment for closed tibial fractures, also in Type I, Type II open tibial fractures. It minimizes the hospital stay and reduces the economic burden and enhances early return to work.

Expandable intramedullary nails for fixation of tibial shaft fractures.

Interlocking intramedullary nailing is currently the preferred treatment for most tibial fractures requiring operative treatment, with good results and a relatively low complication rate as reported in large clinical series. However, vascular and neurological complications caused by interlocking screws have been reported. In addition, insertion of distal interlocking screws can be technically d...

Management of Humeral Shaft Fractures With Intramedullary Interlocking Nail Versus Locking Compression Plate.

Surgical fixation of humeral shaft fractures generally involves plating or nailing. It is unclear whether one method is more effective than the other. The aim of this study was to compare the results of the intramedullary nail and locking compression plate for the treatment of humeral shaft fractures. A total of 60 patients with humeral shaft fractures were randomized to undergo surgery with an...

Outcome of Tibial Shaft Fractures Treated by Close Intramedullary Nail

Tibia is the most commonly fractured long bone in the body with an annual incidence of tibial shaft fractures 2 per 1000 individuals. The use of non-operative treatment of tibial fractures that are widely displaced or that are the result of high-energy forces is associated with a high prevalence of malunion, stiffness of the joint, and poor functional outcome. Closed Tibial diaphyseal fractures...

The Role of Biplanar Distal Locking in Intramedullary Nailing of Tibial Shaft Fractures

Background: To compare the union times of the uncomplicated tibial shaft fractures, which were distally locked by twocoronal and one sagittal screws and by only two coronal screws. Methods: 45 patients with tibial shaft treated with intramedullary nailing included in this study. 23 of 45 fractureswere treated with uniplanar two distal interlocking (Group 1) and 22 fractures were treated with bip...

Treatment of fracture of shaft of humerus in adults by intramedullary interlocking nail fixation- A series of 30 cases

Backgroud: The optimal method of humeral shaft fracture fixation remains in debate. With the dramatic success of intramedullary fixation for fractures of the femur and tibia, there was speculation that IM-ILN might be more appropriate for humeral shaft fractures than DCP. There are very few studies comparing intramedullary interlocking nail and dynamic compression plating in fracture shaft of h...
